   hey guys.. I found your site some days ago and it looks so cool, that i would like to set it up on my own system and play around withit.

   My Problem is now, I've a windows system and installed python (2.6). but i can install setuptools. So i can run .py files but i can't open any mediacore file, cuz the heading is missing #/c:\....python.exe.. i think to resolve this problem setuptools is needed?

   I also try'd to setup mediacore on my dreamhost webhosting packet, but it didn't work.. fastcgi is activated. support means i've to type a header in every .pyfile.. but should that the solution?

   after hours oftimewaste i installed ubuntu 10.04 as an VM and setting up xampp.. now i got an error "can''t connect to the sql" in my terminal.. but i can login to pma, so thats rly confused.. and i'm a linux and python and apache newb..

   so may anyone have an idea how i can get mediacore setting up?

   From the installation docs:
   

   Regarding windows: None of our development team uses windows, none of our clients host with windows, nor do most web hosts in general use windows. Like I say in the docs above, although Windows support isn't a priority for the main dev team, we'd be grateful to anyone that undertook the job of Windows compatibility (it really shouldn't be very difficult, just some file moving code, and some of the install instructions should change).

   You need to be familiar with Linux in order to get MediaCore installed. If you are running into errors with the SQL, make sure you have the mysql-python libraries properly installed.

   Just run into the same issue whilst compiling something.

   You need to install libmysqlclient[YOUR MYSQL VERSION NUMBER]-dev. To install from the repos, make sure your mysql version is the same as the latest in the repositories, then:

   To find current version number:

   sudo aptitude search libmysqlclient
   You'll see a package with number at after libmysqlclient. For example, at time of writing, it's 15, so it looks like this: libmysqlclient15-dev.

   Then:

   sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient15-dev
   That should install mysql_config for you. Hope this helps.

   Hey xDream, running ubuntu in a VM is a good way to go. Don't worry about using mysql from the command line if you have phpMyAdmin running, you can use that to create a new database for mediacore and import setup.sql. Besides that the install instructions should be exactly the same. Let us know if you run into any other problems.
