Restricting access to company internal mediacore server

I am thinking I can make a mediacore server to help streamline new employee training at my company but I will need to restrict access. This would be company internal but if mediacore had some sort of user/group permissions system to show restricted videos to different users/groups that would be optimal.

1) I need to restrict access so that anyone who gains access to the intranet will not be able to access this servers content.

2) I would like to be able to assign video viewing permissions to certain "users and groups".

Is there any way to accomplish this with the current version of mediacore? If not can anyone recommend another video server solution that would incorporate these features.

A number of companies do this currently with MediaCore. If you have a firewall on the intranet of your company, the easiest way to prevent people from outside your company getting access is to simply not allow the server that MediaCore is on to be accessed from outside your company network. Most people add these restrictions into .htaccess, in Apache, or on the firewall server itself.

I have the same question, is there a way to restrict access through groups/users?
I cant find the create group button.

wimmste: I'm not sure what you mean by 'create group button'? In MediaCore CE you can not create custom groups.

The solution mentioned by Jeremy is an all-or-nothing decision without fine-grained access restrictions.

In the next few months I'll commit a MediaCore feature which helps you to grant video access only for certain groups (similar to the MediaCore cloud, however not as polished).

Felix Schwarz- Has this feature been added to MediaCore community edition yet? This is the only feature it is missing for our needs. At our school we need a simple way to disallow certain videos from being viewed by certain users. If someone knows of a way to do this already please let us know.

I merged the main access restriction code two weeks ago (finally!) with some more commits to actually restrict the public upload in my "work in progress" repository.

With the above code you can assign the 'upload' permission either to 'authenticated' users (or any other group) so anonymous guests won't be able to upload.

Hello we have to re-install MediaCore or just copy modified files?

That's a pretty big change (with all the infrastructure) so basically you need to upgrade MediaCore (as described in the docs, just that you don't download a zip package but use git master).

Ideally you deployed your install from git already, then all you have to do is
```
git checkout master
mediacore_env/bin/python setup.py develop
mediacore_env/bin/paster setup-app deployment.ini
```
