   I've been struggling for the past few hours on why media doesn't display natively in the browser from mediacore.

   For example: If i go to a directly to a link for an .mp3 file. Instead of it displaying in the browser, it automatically forces the file to download. This creates an issue in both Safari using HTML5 (it won't load any of the media) , and using an iPhone/iPod Touch when visiting iTunes on the device and trying to stream a podcast.

   Does anyone have any idea how to get this to stream from the browser when accessing the file directly?

   Thinking about this... this may not be the underlying issue. If anyone could help me in trying to figure out why my media doesn't load/play using HTML5 this may solve the problem. For anyone who wants to take a look in Safari, the site is http://media.colonialpoint.com.

   I believe the file download dialogue appears because MediaCore sets a header to specify the filename of the file being accessed. You'll notice that the filename that wants to download is the filename you used to upload, and not necessarily the same as the filename in the URL. Most browsers handle that by opening a file download dialogue.

   I'm not sure why the HTML5 player isn't working for your MP3 files, though, unless you have the player setting in /admin/settings/display set to "flash".

   Anthony,

   my player is set to auto. But if i set it to HTML5 only, all of my files change to pending encoding. If i try to encode them it says it isn't a valid media type.

   Any ideas?

   If a media item goes to "pending encoding" when you've selected "HTML5 only", that means that media item doesn't have an associated file that MediaCore recognizes as playable in any HTML5 player in any common browser.

   In general, for a media item to be considered 'encoded' with "html5 only" selected, it must have an associated .mp3, .mp4, or .ogg file.

   The behaviour is strange, indeed, if an .mp3 file isn't working with HTML5. I'll have to take a closer look at the 0.8 release. Did you, perchance, upgrade from 0.7.2 to 0.8 and keep your database?

   Yes, currently all of the media files are mp3's and this was a clean 0.8 installation

   Hey schmiddy,

   I finally had a chance to test this out today, with a clean 0.8 installation and .mp3 files.

   I can't recreate the bug!

   The html5 player doesn't show up in Firefox, but that's expected, because Firefox can't play .mp3 files natively. But it certainly works in Safari. And all the media stay "published" no matter what I do to the player settings.

   Let's hope it disappears when you upgrade to 0.8.1, which is coming out soon.

   i'm still having this issue even after checking out the latest version from the repository.
   I definitely think this has something to do with the way mod_wsgi is rewriting URL's as i can play an mp3 file perfectly fine through HTML5 that are hosted in a directory outside of my mediacore environment, or even hosted on a different webspace. Typically when accessing an mp3 file directly on a server it will begin playing directly in the browser (with quicktime or similar), however any mp3 file accessed directly through my mediacore environment forces a download.

   My guess is that since it is forcing a download (meaning the correct mime type isn't being passed), it isn't able to display the file in the html5 player.

   I've also confirmed this issue when trying to access a podcast i've setup in mediacore and published through iTunes. When I try to stream episodes of this podcast through the iTunes store on my iPhone, i get a message displayed that says "the server is not correctly configured". Again, most likely because when accessing this file directly instead of streaming as expected it begins a file download.

   Any suggestions would be incredibly helpful. I've been scratching my head trying to figure this out for weeks.
