   I didnt know if anyone could point me in the right direction as I'm working on modifying helpers.html to work with (I hope) with locally based media servers. However I've noticed that 'file.play_url' and 'file.link_url' per the docs aren't the actual stored filename inside data/media/ which seems to be stored in the db per file_name.

   Is there any procedure or pre-existing class I can use to access both the file_name and also the container.

   I'd like to check against the container, run an if test if its mp4/flv and pass it through specific changes in the javascript setup.

   It seems that this is all I'm missing, as I've got symbolic links to the proper mediacore directories to pass through the directory needed locally for the media server to setup a stream, however the generated play_url wont work because its not the actual file name, nor the real location needed for the media server.

   was able to use file.file_name and file.display_name to get the local server working with RTMP. However I'd also like the get this to work with amazon cloudfront streaming. To do so, I'll probably need to do a regex statement to strip the files extension on output, and to extend it further have a way to run a contains() like statement against the url field to make sure its a valid cloudfront url, otherwise display the flash player config differently.

   If anyone has thoughts, would love to hear them, not that well versed with the genshi template syntax.

   For anyone that cares, I was able to modify templates/helpers.html with the use of a little creativity, small changes to admin/media.py and upload.py to change a few things on upload for cloudfront streaming servers, and in model/media.py able to modify the play_url to check for the existence of a cloudfront url.

   In doing so (at with the flowplayer config) the code has been extended to serve files locally through a symbolic link to mediacore's data dir through the rtmp server running locally, understand when a cloudfront url is linked, and serve that through its rtmp server with the proper url handling for mp4 and flvs with adobe media server, and serve any other supported file name from any other link not through an rtmp server.

   I was looking into doing something similar like using a local RTMP server. Would you mind posting some code on how you would connect to the local RTMP server?

   Sure nexus, it depends at what level you're willing to modify things and what you have access to, but here's the basics of what I did to setup the local RTMP server I installed (wowza in this case) to work with mediacore.

   I'm partial to liking flowplayer, so that's the part of the code I modified in {installed_dir}/mediacore/templates/helpers.html to add rtmp as a provider for the flowplayer setup:

   in my case, I created a symbolic link to mediacore inside wowza's media folder to link to mediacores data/media folder so that things uploaded through mediacore could be streamed through the rtmp server.

   then I added the plugin, which if you're not checking against linked streamed files, like cloudfront, you can just use
   rtmp: { url: '${h.url_for('/scripts/third-party/flowplayer.rtmp-3.2.0.swf', qualified=qualified)}', netConnectionUrl: 'rtmp://domainnamehere:openport/streamsetupname'} where the flowplayer listed is one I grabbed off flowplayer for rtmp, the included default one doesnt.

   I then added some file link changes related to the symbolic link inside the clip param, and the url param of the playlist to point to: url: '${file.container}:/mediacore/${file.file_name}', because we want to use the actual filename and not the display name, where mediacore is my symbolic link to mediacores directory where its storing the file.

   Check your RTMP setup on if you have to prefix the file extension.

   I added a LOT more which involved modifying some other python classes, to check against amazon cloudfront, and differentiate between linked cloudfront and linked non-streamable files.

   I can go over that too, but it involves a lot more work. And keep in mind, the above is simplified versions of my final code, that I believe is what I used to get to that step in my modifications.

   Thank you. I am working on a dedicated server and am using Red5 for RTMP and also have Mediacore on the same server. This looks like it should do exactly what I was looking for. I will be giving your suggestions a try. Thanks again.

   I am interested in the Amazon Cloudfront RTMP mods that you made. Like you, I am not a super saavy programmer, but I have some experience with Python, and I could probably get along if you were willing to simply provide the affected files. Thanks for your help!
