Installing Mediacore on Dreamhost (Shared Hosting)

Hey guys,

I am trying to install Mediacore on my shared hosting account provided by Dreamhost.

I have installed Python 2.6.5 with Virtual environment.

When I try to install mediacore, I get the following error:

well if you have to upgrade it to PS , and get a full access and try to install it with putting sudo in front of the command

We haven't tested MediaCore with Python 2.6 - currently we're only supporting 2.5 and there is some work to be done to make it 2.4 and 2.6 compatible.

But when I try to access my site fro browser, I get the following in my apache server log:

What debug level do you have set in the .ini file (I assume deployment.ini is in use, if you're using FastCGI)? Try setting "level = INFO" under "[logger_root]", and change the "set debug = false" line to "set debug = true".

With luck, that'll get you a debug window in your browser when the request fails.

Are you still using Python2.6? I've never had this error on any of my installations, but I've always been using Python2.5.

PS: Sorry for leaving you hanging for so long. I've been away from the office for a couple of weeks.

Hi,

is this have been resolved? I'm having the same problem right now. The page keeps loading until it displays "Page Not Found". I'm using cpanel.

Have you guys looked at the documentation for setting up FastCGI on dreamhost? http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Python_FastCGI

Follow the bootstrap process at the above link. My guess is that you've overlooked Step 1. Steps 2-7 just test that Step 1 worked. Let me know if that process works. If it does, try accessing MediaCore again, and tell me if that works.

Also, see my above questions about the debug settings.

OH WOW... you know what? Everything was already setup. Step 6 made it worked for me (touch mediacore.fcgi)
I thought that by saving the file, it would recognize the updates... apparently not. Maybe this should be added into your documentation.

Hello. It looks like I'm facing the same trouble as the thread starter. I can successfully run built-in server and browse the local site (also some troubles with images, but its yet another problem). Can anybody write here steps to fix that? And, maybe, they should be added to the Wiki?

I'm installing MediaCore at the private web server (Debian Lenny + apache + fastCGI + all packages and python eggs mentioned in the wiki).

The main problem is that I can`t understand the error message. Before that I had troubles with missing eggs and pkg_resources.DistributionNotFound: said the name of the missing module. But now it looks like the MediaCore egg is not found?

Hi,

I'm trying to install Mediacore 0.9.1 on a DreamHost shared server running python 2.5 w/ fastcgi enabled.

If I try to access the install on "/my_media", I receive a 404 error.
If I run the script directly from the console "./mediacore.fcgi" i get this errors, followed by the same 404:

WSGIServer: missing FastCGI param SERVER_PORT required by WSGI!<br />

At StackOverflow someone had a similar situation (python app, though django app, not mediacore) and solved it tinkering with the ".htaccess", but I don't know if this situation fits into that solution

@versvs: I wish you'd open a new thread for your problem as these longs threads are hard to keep track off.

The "./mediacore.fcgi" output actually looks good (install errors would show differently, the missing parameters are set when an actual request comes in).

I think we need more context here:
- Where do you want to install MediaCore? On http://www.yourdomain.com (domain root) or http://www.yourdomain.com/my_media
- I think you're right that htaccess might a solution.
- Do you have a directory 'my_media'?
- is the .htaccess in there?
- any modifications for the htaccess?
