hitting a wall in installing on Dreamhost; where is mediacore.fcgi?

I’ve had no problems up until http://getmediacore.com/docs/install/index.html#step-5-launch-the-built-in-server (paster serve --reload development.ini). development.ini has been edited to include the relevant MySQL information, but when i load http://iwalk-media.gspaccess.org (also tried http://iwalk-media.gspaccess.org/my_media), it’s just a directory list with no pages being served; no login prompt; nothing.

So I don’t know what went wrong. (I am NOT a Python developer [designer experienced with deploying pre-built CMS/CRM etc], but I am good at following instructions.)

Additionally, when I attempt to deploy following the instructions at http://getmediacore.com/docs/install/apache-fastcgi.html, this is not making sense to me:

Third, create a directory named my_media inside your website’s document root. Copy all the files from /path/to/mediacore_install/deployment-scripts/mod_fastcgi into the new my_media directory (this includes .htaccess, mediacore.fcgi, and mediacore-restart.sh).

I assume that '/path/to/mediacore_install/' should be replaced with my own path to where mediacore is installed, but there isn’t a 'deployment-scripts' or 'mod_fastcgi' directory or the mediacore.fcgi and mediacore-restart.sh files.

In what step should these have been created?

Hi Alana,

First: when you launch the default paster server, the configuration (development.ini) is set up with two key features: it hosts mediacore on port 8080 (so as not to interfere with any currently running webserver), and it only allows access from the localhost (so that you don't allow access to your system from the outside before you're ready).

That means you can only access mediacore, by default, from http://localhost:8080/ . To change this, you can edit two lines in development.ini (or deployment.ini, if you're using that one). Under [server:main] in the .ini file, replace
```
host = 127.0.0.1
port = 8080
```
with
```
host = 0.0.0.0
port = 80
```
Second: I'm sorry for the confusion w.r.t. the fastcgi documentation. That whole section (fastcgi and mod_wsgi) only applies to the upcoming release, MediaCore 0.8. I forgot to update the documentation to add a note about that. I'll do that right now. MediaCore 0.8 will be out soon (rc1 will be available for download on the 30th), and will support fastcgi out of the box.
