deanb: That looks a bit scary. Basically you're pretend that you 32 bit binaries are 64 bit. I think you should install the 64 bit variants for zlib+libjpeg.

I have solved the issue (in my case)

For anyone else having problems with uploading thumbnails (On Ubuntu) it may be due to PIL not properly finding zlib and libjpeg.

I resolved it by creating links to the libraries as below

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfreetype.so /usr/lib
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libz.so /usr/lib
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjpeg.so /usr/lib

Also don't forget to do the preliminary requirements at the below page

http://mediacorecommunity.org/docs/install/requirements.html#install-requirements

Hi, hope you can help I'm really struggling. I've followed the installation procedure and cannot get thumbnails to load. I receive the error message 'Saving the file failed. Please try again'

I have checked permissions for the image directory, i think this is a problem with zlib and libjpeg. Which I have checked are installed. I notice during the python setup.py it says these are not available (they are though).

This is on ubuntu 11.10 server 64

I have followed the preliminary pre-requisites and the installation procedure exactly

Anyone else have this problem and has been able to resolve it?

It must have to do with ports, or flash. This isn't a top priority, but we'll see if we can find an iphone around that we can tether up and see what the issue is. It should just work.

Hello,

I often tether my iPhone's 3G connection to continue working on stuff while traveling. The weird part is that when I try to upload the thumbnail the progress bar doesn't do anything. Does it need some open ports or something? If I remote control my home computer, uploading works just fine (regular router setup).

I'm using MediaCore for a local TV, and missed some things.

Local programs, we would have a more detailed description of the program, as well as schedules and their logo.

It is possible to assign a category thumbnail? And also place a more comprehensive description of the category?

Thanks!

The file upload bug has been fixed — it applied only to some translations for which translations weren't being found. The fix is really easy to apply yourself as it's just one word that needs changing. See here:
https://github.com/simplestation/mediacore/commit/7ba735f6023c01b01554f609f9e5cceb2e3302e6

We'll be releasing a second beta tomorrow (Friday) that includes this patch and a number of other fixes and improvements.

We're working on a fix for the language bug - thanks for reporting the bug guys.

The feature video views don't increment because we can't guarantee the user is actually watching the video (and not other page content).

The player is meant for widescreen, if you use a 4/3 video it should just add black to the right and left side of the player.

The cooliris player disappears on the iPhone and iPad since it is in Flash and Flash is not supported on the iOs platform... so it's a deliberate feature :)

Hey Nizer - have you seen a sine-wave player anywhere? I have long wished we could do something for podcasts but none of our current players have that functionality - I totally agree it would be super cool.

Hi Stuart, new features feel and work great. This version of MediaCore-beta0.9 feels way better than the older version. Bravo!

I'm not sure guys, so let me ask is there a way to add a thumbnail image or image at all to replace the little play-arrow when listening to a podcast on the pod/video-player in 0.9 ver.?

2nd, it would be way cool to add a sine-wave when a podcast is actually playing. This would be an awesome touch to let newbies who are new to listening to podcast to be able to distinguish between video and pod-casting content.

I'm using python2.5 on Leopard and had the same issue with 0.9alpha. I did port install jpeg, then recreated the environment, and before developing it, I cleaned it.

python2.5 setup.py clean

And then jpeg support was listed as OK, but now I'm getting error 500 again. I always forget to write down when that happens and why so I don't spend yet another half hour trying to re-figure it out :)

FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server
... whatever that is.

We use PIL (the Python Imaging Library) to handle thumbnail generation, and it uses libjpeg to read/write jpgs. It sounds like PIL was installed, but it didn't know where to find libjpeg. You'll have to:

resolve that issue

create a new virtualenv and activate it (you can delete the old one)

cd into MediaCore-v0.8.2 and run python setup.py develop

watch the output for the section where PIL installs. it will say if jpeg support was included in the build. or you can always try adding a thumbnail like before.

That step 1 is the tricky bit, of course. Are you using macports? Try running "port installed jpeg" to see if this package has been installed yet. If not, you can run "sudo port install jpeg" to install it. Hopefully that'll solve the problem.

So far, you have to manually add them. We're considering adding the option to import them from the remote site automatically.

Do I need to manually add thumbnails for YouTube/Google/Vimeo embeds or is there an automatic thumbnail import option/hack?

cheers

I managed to fix this. Not sure why the apache config included in the mod_wsgi documentation wasn't working correctly.

Adding this line to my apache config and then restarting the apache server fixed my issue

Alias /my_media/images /home/zach/MediaCore-0.8.0/mediacore/public/images

Did you have any luck with this?

I am having a similar issue. I've just updated to the latest version in the GIT repository and while i'm now seeing PIL compile with JPEG support, for some reason the thumbnails are not visible on the site.

I know the upload method is working, as if i do an "ls" in the images/podcast directory I see my images, its just they aren't physically visible on the site... Almost like the template file is pointing to a different image directory.

in Firebug i see the path for the broken image as /my_media/images/podcasts/6m.jpg

the weird thing is the default post which comes with mediacore that points to /my_media/images/podcasts/1m.jpg shows the image fine with no problem.

Any help would be much appreciated as i'm stumped.

Let me know if you need any more information, I am using mod_wsgi so I can dump my apache config here if you thing that may be the problem.
