@versvs: I wish you'd open a new thread for your problem as these longs threads are hard to keep track off.

The "./mediacore.fcgi" output actually looks good (install errors would show differently, the missing parameters are set when an actual request comes in).

I think we need more context here:
- Where do you want to install MediaCore? On http://www.yourdomain.com (domain root) or http://www.yourdomain.com/my_media
- I think you're right that htaccess might a solution.
- Do you have a directory 'my_media'?
- is the .htaccess in there?
- any modifications for the htaccess?

Hi,

I'm trying to install Mediacore 0.9.1 on a DreamHost shared server running python 2.5 w/ fastcgi enabled.

If I try to access the install on "/my_media", I receive a 404 error.
If I run the script directly from the console "./mediacore.fcgi" i get this errors, followed by the same 404:

WSGIServer: missing FastCGI param REQUEST_METHOD required by WSGI!<br />
WSGIServer: missing FastCGI param SERVER_NAME required by WSGI!<br />
WSGIServer: missing FastCGI param SERVER_PORT required by WSGI!<br />
WSGIServer: missing FastCGI param SERVER_PROTOCOL required by WSGI!

At StackOverflow someone had a similar situation (python app, though django app, not mediacore) and solved it tinkering with the ".htaccess", but I don't know if this situation fits into that solution
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/800584/wsgiserver-errors-when-trying-to-run-django-app

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Well, the install on a shared system is no different from a regular install - except that you can not use root to install missing packages. If you don't have SSH access you're out of luck.

The only advise I can give you here is to check 'mediacore.wsgi' if all paths are correct etc. Try (with enabled venv) python mediacore.wsgi.

Well, using paste is not a real error but it is clearly not a good permanent solution.

Then just add the apache snippet referenced in the docs above. Skip all things about 'enhancements' or 'performance optimizations'. These are not really important in your case.

Regarding the port problem I think you need to ask your hoster why it is running on 8080.

leotek: Looks like you use paster which is not recommended for deployment. If you still need to use paster and you DO NOT run apache, you can simply change the port number in your deployment.ini.

However the best option is to configure MediaCore for a mod_wsgi/mod_fcgid deployment as outlined in the docs.

The current MediaCore git version is not Python 2.4 compatible currently due to a few bugs.

@atmediacore sorry for the late reply. That meant for me that I didn't make the modifications to apache.conf or if I did, I forgot to restart it. Hopefully you figured it out by now. I have a media core installation running on web faction right now. Let me know if you still need help.
