> So it would be ok if MediaCore installed on linode.com (VPS) with a Pandastream plugin enabled? Or it is better to install MediaCore to Amazon to reduce speed of file transfer from mediacore to panda?

I don't think will make a difference in terms of speed.

> Or file, uploaded by the user, directly goes to Amazon storage and it does not matter when MediaCore's front end installed: on linode.com (for ex.) or on Amazon?

The file will first go the your MediaCore frontend server but the bottleneck is usually the user's upload bandwidth. And just for sending a file (once) to Panda I don't think you'll notice any difference in speed either from linode or Amazon.

hope that helps

Here's how the pandastream integration works: MediaCore receives the uploaded file and pushes them to PandaStream which will put them in Amazon S3. So as long as you have a fast network connection basically every server will be ok (a fast CPU helps for MediaCore as well).

> Where do MediaCore upload content given by the user?

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly here but assuming the Panda plugin is not active the files will be placed in data/media

Hello everybody.

At the documentation I've found that if pandastream plugin used,
content that is uploaded to MediaCore is automatically sent off to be encoded in the cloud. Pandastream is working on Amazon servers.

So If want to choose a hosted VPS server for MediaCore: what should I choose: linode.com with setting up an initial storage for uploaded files to Amazon bucket or should I better choose an Amazon based cloud server? What is faster?

Where do MediaCore upload content given by the user?

well, I built something for Oxfam's OneGOAL campaign last year. Multiple photos per item are possible (though uploading is not really sketched out).

For pricing best contact me directly (info@schwarz.eu) as this really depends on your needs. Probably for the first version I won't build all possible features (otherwise I need to charge a 5-figure euro amount) but just a minimal set which will be enough for you and can be extended later on. If I can get 3-5 participants sharing the cost, a simple solution would be a between 500-900 € each (ball park!).

I'd like to add that I built a very simplistic image upload feature for MediaCore 0.8. The feature was asked a couple of times but so far there was no real commercial interest so I did not port my code to 0.9.

Probably this would require some MediaCore modifications (which I'd try to get upstream) + some plugin code. At least simple image support is absolutely feasible, however without some paying customers I can't work on that currently.

1. MediaCore can run on any server that supports Python and MYSQL. You will need root access to install some of the required libraries. I'm not sure if hostgator meets these requirements.
2. Yes it is possible. Under advertising in settings you can add html code for any banners you wish to run (adwords etc.)
3. No, MediaCore is strictly focussed on video - if you want a forum you will need to use something in conjunction with MediaCore. In the past we have run vbulletin, punbb, and bbpress alongside MediaCore.
4. No.
5. You can test on the mac (this is how we develop MediaCore) see install instructions for OSX in the docs: http://mediacore.com/docs/install/requirements.html#step-1a-first-requirements-in-mac-os-x

Thanks Nathan ! you are right. Getting this message when I see error log. ( How do I get Apache fastcgi config ?)
---------
FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/home/nsd/mydomain.com/my_media/mediacore.fcgi" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (60 sec)
FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/home/nsd/mydomain.com/my_media/mediacore.fcgi"
File does not exist: /home/nsd/mydomain.com/internal_error.html
----------
This is what I see in browser:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@mydomain.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

--

This the situation after moving 'my_media" inside /home/nsd/mydomain.com/. This was stupid mistake from myside earlier and was causing an issue I mentioned earlier ( because my_media was inside /home/nsd).

To clarify our $9.95 hosting, is a starter account. We recommend our Standard account for mediacore. We do not give root ssh on shared accounts, however, full root is not required to self install.
(see documentation)
We would also advise paying for the installs by the hosting company no matter who you choose. Its a complicated setup, aned well worth your money to have it done for you. It will save many hours of time and energy best spent on other things.

I am going to change 2 sites to mediacore now, and wonder if there is any update on these ?
I want a provider which would allow many subdomains and domains on one "package".

Hi there, sorry, I just noticed this.

Did you add:

"PATH=$HOME/mediacore_env/bin:$PATH"

to your .bashrc and .bash_profile files? That should fix your issue. Let me know how you go.

Hi, i'm trying to follow the dreamhost-setup.txt guide. When I tried to actually install, I recieved errors. First I tried to do exactly what was in the dreamhost guide:

(mediacore_env)[gianfar]$ python2.5 setup.py develop
running develop
error: can't create or remove files in install directory
The following error occurred while trying to add or remove files in the
installation directory:
[Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/test-easy-install-25381.write-test'

Then with a different install directory that isn't write-protected:

(mediacore_env)[gianfar]$ python2.5 setup.py develop --install-dir $HOME/mediacore_env
running develop
Checking .pth file support in /home/youserved2/mediacore_env/usr/bin/python2.5 -E -c pass
TEST FAILED: /home/youserved2/mediacore_env does NOT support .pth files
error: bad install directory or PYTHONPATH

You are attempting to install a package to a directory that is not
on PYTHONPATH and which Python does not read ".pth" files from. The
installation directory you specified (via --install-dir, --prefix, or
the distutils default setting) was:

    /home/youserved2/mediacore_env

and your PYTHONPATH environment variable currently contains:

    ''

Could anyone help me? I'm a little confused as to why it worked just fine for maltokyo but not for me.
